Iza Brazil

I once got told that if I spend my whole life with my head in a book, living through fiction, then I’m going to miss out on all the real and raw stories in our world.

That one sentence opened up my eyes and gave me a whole new perspective.

Kia Ora, my name is Iza. Although my name suggests it, I am not from Brazil, and for as long as I can remember, I have loved telling stories. Despite what I've been told most of my life, talking IS a hobby. In fact, I love talking so much that I decided to make a career out of it. My passion for narration is ultimately what led me to journalism.

On one of my first days at the Broadcasting School, I coined a phrase: “Giving a voice to the voiceless”. I believe there is something so special about an authentic human connection.

Whilst studying, I have also discovered the satisfaction of the creative process; with an avid certification underway, editing stories is something I have come to really enjoy. My enthusiasm for organisation and leadership has also been strengthened. The role of news director quickly became a natural fit for me.

I have dipped my toes into most areas, having done stories on current affairs, politics, local government, arts, events, environment, science and technology, and my favourite: sports!!

From this range of reporting, I have learnt that I want to be a journalist who doesn't shy away from the unknown. I want to be someone who accepts a lack of knowledge and throws themselves into a further pursuit of it.

I’m looking forward to connecting with you.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koe!
